Eleven years after it was his first concert in Lima – a show that, moreover, coincided with the beginning of the opening of the city to the arrival of artists and international bands – Roger Waters returned to Peru with the tour US+THEM. The show, which lasted for just over two hours, was held at the Estadio Monumental de Ate and was composed of a repertoire of seventies themes by Pink Floyd (mainly from the albums “ANIMALS”, “THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON” and “THE WALL”) and also “IS THIS THE LIFE WE REALLY WANT?”, The most recent solo album by Roger Waters.
In addition to the brilliant performances of Roger Waters and his band, the show highlighted audiovisual respects in which the musician carries a call to resistance in adverse times. Messages in favor of the liberation of Palestine, against the “consumerist” vision of Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook) and against the administration of Donald Trump were projected during the interpretation of two of his most political themes: “DOGS” and “PIGS”. The US+THEM tour began in May of 2017 and will conclude with this stage in Latin America. After Peru, Roger Waters will visit Colombia, Costa Rica and Mexico, where he will close with three shows in Mexico D.F., two in Guadalajara and two in Monterrey.
Pouring further cold water on the idea that Velvet Revolver might wish Weiland were here to stay is the fact that Pink Floyd covers are such familiar territory for the group. In fact, they’ve played “Wish You Were Here” many times over the years in live performances. Velvet Revolver’s version of Pink Floyd’s “Money” appeared on the soundtrack to 2003 Mark Wahlberg heist-film remakeThe Italian Job.
