The longest-running, most successful partnership in the history of rock takes flight anew, as legendary Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductees Carlos Santana and Clive Davis, Chief Creative Officer of Sony Music Entertainment, collaborate on the brand new concept album, “Guitar Heaven: The Greatest Guitar Classics Of All Time”, arriving in stores September 21 on Arista Records. The album was co-produced by Carlos Santana and Clive Davis with tracks produced by Matt Serletic and Howard Benson. 

Working from their collective encyclopedic knowledge of rock, Carlos Santana and Clive Davis devised a list of guitar-centric titles — and then invited a Who’s Who of guest vocalists to perform on every track. Singers range from Chris Cornell (on LED ZEPPELIN‘s “Whole Lotta Love”), Pat Monahan (on VAN HALEN‘s “Dance The Night Away”), Chester Bennington and Ray Manzarek (on THE DOORS‘ “Riders On The Storm”), Rob Thomas(on CREAM‘s “Sunshine Of Your Love”), Scott Weiland (on THE ROLLING STONES‘ “Can’t You Hear Me Knockin'”), Chris Daughtry (on DEF LEPPARD‘s “Photograph”), Gavin Rossdale (on T. REX‘s “Bang A Gong”) to rapper Nas (on AC/DC‘s “Back In Black”), veteran Joe Cocker (on JIMI HENDRIX‘s “Little Wing”) and more. 

A very special dedication to George Harrison comes together on “Guitar Heaven…”, with “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”, featuring singer india.arie and master cellist Yo-Yo Ma. “Listening to the song,” Olivia Harrison told Carlos, “it made me jump for joy and cry at the same time.” Along with these stars, Carlos offers “supreme validation and compliment” to his full-time band for their work on “Guitar Heaven…”, their first entire full-length studio album recording together. Band members who join him on the album include Dennis Chambers (drums), Benny Rietveld (bass), Karl Perrazo (timbales), Tommy Anthony (rhythm guitar), Freddie Ravel (keyboards), Andy Vargas (background vocals), and Raul Rekow (Congas). Bill Ortiz(trumpet) and Jeff Cressman (trombone) also appear on the record. 

“To create these songs,” said Carlos, “it took an incredible amount of trust – from Matt Serletic, and from Howard Benson, and all these incredible singers, all these incredible musicians, they had to trust me, and I trusted Clive, so it’s a chain reaction of love, because that’s the highest form of love that there is on this planet: Trust.”  “The cuts are special and the guest stars are special,” said Clive Davis. “But what is unique and why this album stands for more than just the individual songs or titles, is that they were indeed chosen because they’re guitar classics. And they celebrate the guitar because of the performance of Carlos Santana.”

Carlos Santana y Clive Davis han vuelto a aliarse para colaborar en un nuevo álbum titulado “Guitar Heaven, The Greatest Guitar Classics of All Time”, que se publicará el 21 de septiembre de 2010. El disco ha sido coproducido por Carlos Santana y Clive Davis, con algunos temas producidos por Matt Serletic y Howard Benson. Santana Y Davis han seleccionado una lista de canciones emblemáticas con la guitarra como ícono, invitando después a una serie de cantantes para cada tema. Así, Chris Cornell (Soundgarden y Audioslave) canta ‘Whole Lotta Love’ de Led Zeppelin; Pat Monahan, ‘Dance the Night Away’ de Van Halen; Chester Bennington (Linkin Park) y Ray Manzarek (The Doors) están en ‘Riders on the Storm’ de The Doors; Rob Thomas (Matchbox Twenty) en ‘Sunshine Of Your Love’ de Cream.

Siguiendo con la nómina de notables colaboraciones, Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots y Velvet Revolver) canta en ‘Can’t You Hear Me Knockin” de los Rolling Stones; Chris Daughtry en ‘Photograph’ de Def Leppard; Gavin Rossdale (de Bush) en ‘Bang A Gong’ de T. Rex; el rapero Nas en ‘Back In Black’ de AC/DC y el veterano Joe Cocker en ‘Little Wing’ de Jimi Hendrix, entre otros. Hay un recuerdo muy especial a George Harrison en el álbum con la canción ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’, con India Arie a las voces y el violoncelista Yo-Yo Ma.

El guitarrista de blues Jonny Lang participa en ‘I Ain’t Suupertitious’ (de Jeff Beck), mientras que el vocalista de Creed, Scott Stapp, pone sus cuerdas vocales al servicio de ‘Fortunate Son’, el clásico de Credence Clearwater Revival. Junto a estos artistas, Santana ha tenido a su lado a la banda que le acompaña habitualmente con la que ha grabado todo el álbum: Dennis Chambers (batería), Benny Rietveld (bajo), Karl Perrazo (timbales), Tommy Anthony (guitarra rítmica), Freddie Ravel (teclados), Andy Vargas (coros) y Raúl Rekow (congas). En el disco también están Bill Ortiz en la trompeta y Jeff Cressman en el trombón.

Clive Davis fue el artífice del triunfo de Santana en 1969 con su primer álbum, coincidiendo con su histórica actuación en el festival de Woodstock.  Tres décadas después, en 1999, ‘Supernatural’ multiplicó el éxito con 15 platinos en Estados Unidos, el doble de discos vendidos, 12 semanas en el número uno, 102 semanas en la lista Billboard y dos singles de éxito planetario: ‘Smooth’ (interpretado por Rob Thomas, que ahora reincide) y ‘Maria Maria’ (con Product G&B). 

Con semejantes récords difíciles de igualar, ‘Shaman’ repitió número 1 y consiguió multiplatino, ganando otro Grammy con la canción ‘The Game of Love’, con Michelle Branch. En 2005, el álbum ‘All That I Am’ alcanzó el número 2 con la canción ‘Just Feel Better’, cantada por Steven Tyler de Aerosmith. En 2007 se publicó ‘Ultimate Santana’, la primera gran antología de su carrera con éxitos como ‘Evil Ways’, ‘Black Magic Woman’, ‘Oye como va’, ‘Samba pa ti’, ‘Everybody’s Everything’, ‘No One To Depend On’ y ‘Europa’, a los que se añadían colaboraciones y canciones nunca editadas.
